On the Edge of Middle Age

On the Edge of Middle Age

And the days go by
Like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own
I begin again
Said to my friend, baby
Nothin' else mattered

As I screamed at the top of my lungs, OOO BABY OOOO, nothin' else mattered dancing around with my new middle aged friends and belting lyrics out that I grew up with.  I honestly don't know if The Pretenders & Stevie Nicks were more entertaining or our "cool" dad friend that we sat next to and the moms' night out groups.

This past Thursday, Andrew and I went to Stevie Nicks & The Pretenders. I have seen Stevie before with the besties a few years ago and she is so good, I just had to see her again! It is always funny going to these "legends" of music concerts and honestly, it is probably a good thing as we bring down the average age. I say this because the "cool" dad who took his wife and her best friend from high school (over 30 years of friendship) to the concert asked us what he thought the average age was. I said 46 which I was feeling pretty confident in, he agreed and gave me "knuckles".

I probably received about 40 "knuckles", "tight" and "that's sick" throughout the concert after every question or statement I made. Which made me think of Amy Poehler in Mean Girls as the "cool mom". Would this be me in 20 years? And who would be my Stevie Nicks?

I will tell you one thing I know for sure. I will DEF still be life of the party and dancing at concerts after my two glasses of Chardonnay in 20 years. What I don't know is who will it be. Britney? Beyonce? Pitbull? Flo Rida? Lil Jon? Okay, you laugh at the last 3 but lets be real, 11:30 on a Friday night on the dance floor you love all of them.

The thought of me in 20 years wearing Apple Bottom jeans and boots with the fur... well... I will tell you one thing the whole "club" will DEF be lookin at her. But for those of you that do know me, you know I ABSOLUTELY WILL hit that floor and they will all be yelling "Coco got low, low, low." We will determine in 20 years if this will be appropriate or if I will be the "For God's sakes, Ali. Get her off the dance floor." lady. In the mean time, I will enjoy my dancey pop music, gettin' low on the dance floor and drinking cheap chardonnay as a mid-age millennial. We all have to let our hair down every once in awhile. ;-)
